For most that know me, you know I don't crave sweets, or chocolate, or even one of those Starbucks/Caribou Double Mocha Cappuccino drinks. It's the 'carb' that gets me every time. That nice loaf of freshly baked bread, or even the first slice out of a store bought bag of bread; sad, but true. I know, you are laughing right now, but everyone has their weakness!
The reason why I say all this is because at work for our health plan I spoke with a "health specialist" or something on the lines of that at work the other day for our health benefits and such. To receive "free" money in our HSA we have to qualify in the healthy status of some sort. I missed it this spring due to a family function-the Jersey Sale in Rochester. Tuesday, I found out that in six weeks at another weigh in I have to lose six pounds! That's do-able, right? Most people would say yes, but for those that work in dispatch know it's a tough feat. I am going to try my hardest but that means one major thing...ease up on the carbs, woman! I need to get myself in a routine says my boss. It's a hard thing to do but start a routine; it doesn't have to be running-just some type of physical exercise. Oh how I wish I liked to run. I tried last summer to get into it but it fizzled and croaked. Perhaps I can get to the gym again this fall/winter and get myself worked up again to try it again.
In the meantime, a question for all who care to share. How do you stay motivated to exercise?
Welcome
In this phase of life where I am the taxi driver, the cook, the laundromat and the cheerleader!
God's Peace to you in all your adventures.

Cravings of my Hunter
Greetings! I had so much fun doing my wedding blog this summer that I thought it might be fun to continue. Granted, my life is no longer chaotic with wedding planning, but I am starting this just in time for Minnesota Hunting Season. For those that know me, my husband, or our dog, you know our life is anything but ordinary.
I am starting this blog off with the realization that my husband is a hunter and with that comes his crazy cravings when he returns from a hunting trip. He just returned this past Saturday from an Elk hunting trip in Colorado. Not sure where this craving came from but he requested a cake that not only may make some a bit hesitant to say but also make sure you go to the gym before and after just having a sliver of a taste; Better Than Sex Cake. The main ingredient: sugar. Add a little German Chocolate cake to a pan, drizzle some caramel, sweetened condensed milk, chopped toffee bars, lather on some cool whip and sprinkle more chopped toffee bars. See?
My first and perhaps my last question to him, why? My husband has more of a sweet tooth than I do, which is probably why I love to bake (not cookies) but never really eat the things I bake. Why can't he crave pizza, a good steak/sirloin, wild rice soup? The cake is currently in the freezer but for those that want to try out this sinful deliciousness:
1 (18.25 oz) package of Devil's Food Cake Mix-I used German Chocolate (and all the ingredients to make it)
1/2 can (14 oz) Sweetened Condensed Milk
6 oz Caramel Sauce
3 Chocolate Covered Toffee Candy Bars- I used Heath Milk Chocolate Toffee bits (in the baking isle)
1 (8 oz) container of frozen Cool-Whip, thawed.
Directions:
Bake cake according to package directions for a 9x13 baking dish. Remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes. Using a fork, poke holes all over the cake.
Pour the caramel sauce evenly all over the top of the cake. Then pour only half of the cane of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the cake. Chop up one of the candy bars and sprinkle evenly on top. Place cake in refrigerator and let chill for a few hours to cool completely.
Remove cake from refrigerator and spread the thawed cool-whip evenly over the top. Chop up remaining two candy bars, and then sprinkle over the entire cake. Serve!
